For Students

Training Orchestra

Nine children, casually dressed, about 7-8 years old, play the violin in a classroomMost of our children are ready for playing in ensembles long before their schools can offer it to them. Our training orchestra’s mission is to introduce beginning music readers to the art of orchestral playing, providing a unique head start for children who may then go on to play in chamber orchestras, symphony orchestras and music festivals.. We are proud of our many students who have been consistently selected to play in the Erie County (ECMEA) orchestras and the New York Area All-State (NYSSMA) orchestras. We also provide an exclusive opportunity for a young SVWNY conductor in training.

Presto! Advanced Ensemble

The Presto! Ensemble was first created in 2008 to provide a high-level chamber music experience for WNY’s most advanced young players.

Students gain experience with a variety of musical styles, including fiddle tunes, folk music from different countries, rock, baroque and classical. Their repertoire is chosen carefully, according to the students’ needs and potential. We also collaborate with different musicians and instruments that allow us to explore different repertoires.

Today this highly sought-after ensemble is open by audition to advanced young string players from around the area.

Think First Serve Practice & Performance Workshops

Think first serve logoThink First Serve is a consulting company whose mission is to help people and organizations figure out new ways to grow, through creative thinking and problem solving. SVWNY has collaborated with Think First Serve on a number of successful projects over the past several years. Currently we offer a special opportunity for our SVWNY students, and their parents, to participate in workshops aimed at understanding how you and your child prefer to learn, practice and perform – and how that may be similar or different to those around you. The workshops provide insights and tools that are valuable not just for Suzuki, but across all aspects of school and life.
